Based on standard scheduling operations, the Placeholder Column (also known as a Waitlist or Ghost Column) operates with the following rules:
No Notes or Check-ins: It serves purely as a visual placeholder. It does not produce a clinical note and does not allow a patient to be formally checked in.
- No Initial Communications: While a patient is scheduled in the Placeholder column, the system will not send out automated appointment confirmations or reminders.
- Online Booking: Patients have the ability to book online directly into the Wait List column.
- Triggering Confirmations: Once clinic staff moves the patient's appointment from the Wait List to an actual provider's column, the standard appointment confirmation email is finally triggered and sent to the patient.
Primary Use Cases: The column is highly beneficial for managing patient waitlists or blocking out shared clinic resources (like a laser room) where a full provider schedule isn't necessary.
